Book Review: Funerals are Fatal

Hi y'all, I just recently finished reading Funerals are Fatal by Agatha Christie and I thought I would do a quick post talking about it!

This book was really good! It involves multiple murders and a family full of suspects. It constantly has you focusing your suspicion on a different person on every new page! I personally thought it had a really fun and captivating plot line. I will say that if your paying enough attention, you might be able to guess "who done it." However, I didn't see it coming at all. Overall I thought this was a really good and quite read for me. I have had so much going on lately and I really needed something that would allow me to just decompress for a bit. This book did that for me. I really recommend reading this if you can get your hands on it. I know it's an old book. I had to find it at a second-hand book store. I hope you like these posts and there can definitly be more in the future!

Shake it Off

It's okay to let go. It's even good to let go. It's really necessary to let go. Letting go of all built up hurt is the only way to move on. Shake it off. Don't let what others say have so much power over you that your happiness is taken. You are better than what they say you are. You are worth more than they say you are. You are so much more important then they make so feel. Shake it off. If we could all begin to live by what we truly know we are capable of rather than what those around us say we're capable of, success would be infinite. Shake it off. You must defy their mediocre expectations and tear down their detrimental wall of limitation so that you may be happy. That's what you deserve. You have the just the right as anyone to have success, have happiness, have peace. Shake it off.

IPSY: February 2015

Time to see what was in my February 2015 Ipsy bag! So something really weird happened to me this month. I actually got two separate bag this month. They were even different items with only one repeat. As excited as I was to get all of these products, I didn't want to be charged for two bags. I logged onto my bank account and they only charged me once! So I got all of these really cool products for only $10! So I decided that I would include ALL the products I received from Ipsy this month. But first a little about Ipsy. It's a monthly beauty subscription that costs just $10 each month. You typically get  4 to 5 full sized or deluxe samples in each bag. You take a quiz at the beginning so that they can tailor products to your likes. A bonus is the cute makeup bag the products come in! If your interested in singing up- you can sign up here >>

But now to the bag(s)!
This months theme is #IpsyLove
(Here’s a picture of all of the items I was supposed to get)

Creamy Lip Stain by City Color Cosmetics in the color Flirtini

I really love lip products, and one of my goals this year is to get good use out of all of the ones I own so it’s no surprise that I am really happy to receive this item. I love that it’s pink!

Professional Eyelash Curler by Emite Make Up

Honestly, I didn't need another eyelash curler. I already had one of my own that I used daily and work fine. However, I think it’s really cool that Ipsy would include something like this. I don’t think many people would expect to get something like that in a subscription box, especially one so cheap! So overall, I’m happy that I received this item. Besides, you never know when they one I already had will break or something.

Up All Night Volumizing Spray by Eva NYC

I haven't tried this yet. I just got my bag yesterday! However, I'm kind of excited to try it. I'm not sure if it will work for me because I have extremely thick hair. But if I don't like it I've already decided I'm going to give it to my mom.

Fine Radiance Face Oil by Mitchell and Peach

I am really excited about this! It originally says it's for radiance, however, I did a little more research and found that it's really good to hydrate dry skin too. I have had terrible dry skin the past few months, so I'm hoping this will help! This is the product I got a duplicate of, but I'll be thrilled if it actually helps my skin.

Bush Check Powder by ModelCo in the color Cosmopolitan

I'm excited about this product! I have heard great things about ModelCo and I love blush! I ended up getting both colors of this as well which is amazing. They seem like really good quality and can't wait to try.

Now to see my other bag!
(Here is a picture of all the extra items I received)

Mini Lip Gloss by CARGO Cosmetics in the color Anguilla

This seems to be a really barbie pink color and a pretty smooth non-sticky formula. I'm so excited to try this. I absolutely adore lip gloss and cannot wait to use this one!

Composition No. 1 Parfum Oil by JOYA

This stuff smells really good so I'm really excited to wear this. It's in a roller ball form which it awesome for a fragrance sample. My only complaint is that the sample is so super tiny. However, because this was one of the extra products I received, I really can't complain.

Bush Check Powder by ModelCo in the color Peach Bellini

This is the same as the other blush I received, just in another color. Again, super excited about this!

Eye shadow by Rob Scheppy for 'Tini Beauty in the color Pearl Fizz

This seems like an awesome eye shadow. It seems really creamy! It would be a really great highlight shade, but it could also be used all over the lid if you wanted to. I'm ready to try this as soon as possible!

Do y'all subcribe to Ipsy? What did you get in your bag? I'd love to know! Don't forget id you are not currently subscribed but what to be you can use the link here >>

How I Feel About: Being 18

So I recently turned 18 and with that change I have been thinking a lot about it. How do I feel about being 18? What does it look like to be 18? What really changes now that I'm 18? So I felt like I wanted to go a blog post about this.
To begin, a part of me feels like nothing has changed. I went to school at 17, and now I go to school at 18. I had chores at 17, and I still have them at 18. I went to the gym at 17, and I continue to go to the gym at 18. So for me personally, it doesn't look like this monumental point in my life has made much of a difference. Because let's be honest, the only things that 18 year olds can do is buy lottery tickets or scratch offs (which I have bought a couple of them already and had some fun with them. I won $3!) and vote (which won't happen until 2016 anyway.) Now don't get me wrong, I think those things are awesome, but they are not really the huge change kids often expect.
But on the other hand, I do feel a change in my life. It might not be the profound game changer I had imagined, but still a change nonetheless. I feel a deeper responsibility for my actions for sure. No longer will my parents be able to help me with every little thing, even if they wanted to. Now don't take this to mean my mom is always cleaning up my messes, but the fact that she won't be able to anymore has had great meaning to me the last few days. I must take an even longer moment to work things out myself before I decide to give up. I feel like teenagers often fall short to handling high stress problems.
I'm excited to be 18 as well. With being 18 comes the chance to take a closer look at the future and decide what that looks like for you. What college you want to go to, what you want to major in, where you want to live are all your own decisions at 18. I plan to rise to the occasion.
I know that my readers are both older and younger than 18, I hope this post helps someone or allows someone to connect with me through their own experience at this age!

Snow Day!

Hey y'all! So there are tons of school districts that canceled school today in North Carolina due to bad weather. There isn't any snow where I live, (sadly) but there was a ton of ice last night and into this morning. The ice has been melting pretty fast, but school was canceled all the same. So I thought it would be cute to do a post about what I did during my snow day!

I slept in and woke up without an alarm (yay!) around 7:30. It may not seem like much, but I usually get up at 6 o'clock so I really loved the extra hour an a half! Bellow is a screenshot I took of my home screen when I got up this morning. I absolutely love my background!

I did have to do some homework. Yesterday,  my AP Psychology teacher assigned some work from our textbooks that is due tomorrow. It wasn't too bad through and I was able to get it done pretty fast. My AP Literature teacher assigned some reading in Shakespeare's Hamlet I has to go as well. I have never been a huge Shakespeare fan (and prefer writing over reading), but Hamlet isn't too bad and has a pretty interesting plot line. Bellow I have a picture of my AP Psychology textbook as well as on of my copy of Hamlet

Since the roads aren't too bad anymore I decided I was going to go to the gym for a little while. I just couldn't keep myself in the house and I don't live far from my gym at all so I figured it would be alright. The roads ended up being fine and there was hardly any cars. Now that I'm back home and everything I'm so thrilled I was able to go to the gym. I always feel so much better after a work out. Today I just biked for 8 miles on the stationary bike. Bellow is a picture I put on my Snapchat story after my workout.

My mom makes these really yummy crackers. I'm not even sure what she puts on them though!  She made them today and it was a great little snack so I thought I'd include them in this post. I've got to get her to show me how to make them soon! Bellow is a picture of the crackers.

Today Mardi Gras! It's a big deal down in New Orleans and because my family (myself included) has always loved  New Orleans, my family likes to celebrate just a little. My mom made King Cake, for anyone who doesn't know what it is the kind my mom makes is basically just cinnamon rolls with extra sugar! In addition to that we are also having gumbo and shrimp for dinner, both classic New Orleans. Bellow is a picture of the King Cake.

Overall I think today has been a pretty good and pretty productive day for me. How was your day today? Did you have off of school/work too? What did you do today? Let me know if you enjoyed this post! I think I may want to do more posts about what I do on a daily basis such as "A Typical Weekday" or "A Typical Weekend day" Tell me if you'd be interested in those posts!

Live Intentionally

As the new year arrived I began to think about new years resolutions (who doesn't right?) However, I didn’t like the idea of picking a typical resolution (i.e lose weight, eat healthy, or read more) They seemed, to me, too general. Anything that would fit into the format of a resolution was something I was already working on. I have been working on eating healthier for numerous months, for example. I wanted something that I could turn into a lifestyle change. Something that had the potential to not only change my life for the better but also have a positive impact on those around me. While keeping this in my thoughts January 1st came and went, leaving myself without any sort of goal. However, not long into January I realized what I wanted my goal to be. It took a combination of my Zumba instructor's anti-resolution speech and a church sermon to figure it out, believe it or not.
I realized that 2015 would be the year I began to live more intentionally. Now I know this may look different to other people due to the fact that it’s such a general statement. For me living intentionally means many things. It means taking initiative in my relationships (family, friends, and otherwise) and being a good friend, daughter, sister, etc. This may mean texting a friend I haven’t talked to in a while and catch up, or be there to listen to my mom or sister when something is bothering them. I’m not saying I never did any of this before, but now I want to make a conscious effort to do it more often. Living intentionally means re-evaluating the activities I’m involved in to see what's really important and potentially letting go of some of them (although I haven’t given anything up just yet.) Living intentionally also means making an even more conscious effort to live a more healthy lifestyle. Now, I discussed before that I am already working on this, but I want to continue forward with my success. I think that some may look at this as confusing, but I really think it’s something I really needed to think about.
I know that it is now into February and it’s kind of weird to be talking about new year’s resolutions and a 2015 goal this late in the year, however, because I have had some time to put this goal into practice so I thought it was good to wait to post this. I now have the ability to speak to my experience with it so far. The most success I have seen is with my personal relationships. I feel like prior to the new year I wasn’t so much cold towards others but reserved. I think that I was afraid to do or say things as far as relationships are concerned because I thought that there was always the possibility that my efforts would cause negative consequences. Now, the difference isn’t that that possibility isn’t there anymore, the difference is I make the effort anyway. The main thing I have been doing is texting people and checking in on them. I feel like it’s a good way to reach out to people and it shows that you still care about the relationship and are still willing to maintain the relationship. I feel like this has caused my friendships to grow.
I really hope that this post has inspired y’all. Even if this isn’t something you feel like is applicable to your life, I still hope it inspired y’all to have some sort of life goal. I would really love for anyone who has a good, inspired by this post or otherwise, to post it in the comments. I think it would be awesome to see what other people are working on as well.

New Nail Color: 2/11!

It''s time for another New Nail Color post! I re painted my nails the other night because they were looking really bad and I just couldn't take it anymore! The color I have on them now is Sand Tropez by Essie. Honestly, I'm too sure how I feel about it. I don't dislike like it, however I don't like I'm used to having such a neutral color on my nails! What do y'all think of it?

Urban Decay Naked On the Run: Review!

A little while ago I bought the Urban Decay Naked on the Run palette with some birthday money. Now that I've gotten the chance to use it a bit, I thought I’d do a blog post about it!

What You Get
The palette includes…
Six eye shadows in Dive, Fix, Resist, Dare, Stun, and 5050
One blush
One bronzer
One travel size Perversion mascara
One mini 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Stag
One full size Ultra Nourishing Lip gloss in Sesso

My Thoughts
I really love this palette! I love the eye shadows. They are perfect for making a ton of different neutral eye looks! The blush is a really pretty pink and something that can be kept rather soft and natural or built up for a bright look. The lip gloss is really amazing too! It’s a natural color that would look great on so many people. The formula is a little sticky at first, but it doesn't stay that way. After wearing it for a little bit I find it’s no longer sticky. I also love the mascara! It’s really great at lengthening. I've tried the 24/7 Glide-on eye pencils, and I love them, the color included in the palette (stag) is amazing. It's a really dark brown that looks great with fair skin. I have also no tired the bronzer yet. The one downside with this palette is the price ($54). However, the products are great quality and worth it! Overall I really recommend this palette! It is limited edition so you might want to pick it up now if you're interested to make sure you get your hands on it.

Hope y'all enjoyed this post! I just thought it would be fun to do a quick review and share my thoughts!

Just Some Links

I just thought I would compile a list of links of things I've found recently that I've really liked. I hope y'all like them as much as I do!

{link} This short post about being yourself by Carrie from Carrie On Blogs is a great reminder for all of us! I find it so true to my life especially and I think others would find truth in it as well!

{link} This short post about doing what you love by Carrie from Carrie On Blogs really made me think about what my passions are. Such a good little read.

{link} I stumbled across this old post about failure by Emily from Emily and Dot earlier. It's really amazing! I found it really encouraging to be reminded that our failure leads us to our success. I highly recommend reading this!

{link} Kevin O'Leary, known as one of the Sharks on the TV show Shark Tank, wrote this article about your willingness to do what it takes to be who you want to be. It was really interesting to hear his story as well as thought provoking.

{link} This is a post by Melissa from Stay Fabulous about what it means to her to sparkle. I absolutely love this! I think the things she talks about are things all women should live by!

{link} This is visual poem done by the You Tuber Meghan Rienks. This is just amazing. That's really all I can say about it. Every girl, especially teenagers, HAVE to watch this. It's beautiful.

Please let me know what you thought of these AND post your favorite links in the comments bellow!

January 2015 Favories

Can you believe it’s already February? I know I can’t! But either way, I wanted to get my monthly favorites posted. I have both beauty/fashion and non-beauty favorites.

Let’s start with beauty favorites:
Elle earrings by Kendra Scott in white pearl.
I really love these earrings. They are so cute! I also love that they aren't super heave on my ears. I feel like anyone would be able to wear them without feeling uncomfortable. I’m so happy I got the white ones as well because it allows them to be so versatile. They were a Christmas present from my parents (thanks mom and daddy!) and I couldn't be more thrilled to own them. Definitely a favorite this month.

Plaid Blanket Scarf
This has got to be my favorite scarf I own now. The pattern and colors  is something that works well with almost any neutral. I find it perfect for throwing together a simple winter look while still having a super cute outfit.

Southern Shirt Co. Boardwalk V-neck Jersey
This has been perfect for any day where I either don’t feel like or don’t need to dress up. It’s THE go to shirt for lazy days. It’s super cute, super comfy. I love that it’s V Neck as well, I feel like it helps it feel even more comfy! I got it as a Christmas present ( thanks mom and daddy!) and gotten a lot of use out of it in January!

Elf Powder Brush
I picked this up a Target on a random trip because my other powder brush was literally falling apart. I had been using it for years and it was past time to get a new one. This one by Elf is absolutely perfect! Its super soft and super dense. I love this one so much I’m considering maybe buying some more Elf brushes. Have y’all tried Elf brushed before? What do you think of them?

Maybelline Color Whispers
So these are nothing new, I know, but I fell in love with these again this month when I decided I would use more of the huge lip product collection I have! These are super moisturizing! I find them to almost feel like a lip balm when on my lips. The colors are super cute as well, however, they are more shear and the color payoff is not huge. These are still some of my favorite lips products to wear to school because it’s so each to wear and apply.

Glitter Gala Pinwheel Studs by Kate Spade
These earrings were a birthday present from my little sister (thanks so much Hailey!). I really do love these earrings. They’re big and so sparkly. For me they are really the perfect statement piece for so many outfits.

Now non-beauty:
Nutrigrain Cereal bars in Strawberry
Ok so this is something that’s really random, I understand that, but these are so good. They are basically soft granola bars with jelly in the middle. My favorite flavor is Strawberry but Raspberry is also really good. These are great for a quick snack or I like them as a quick breakfast on weekdays too!

G2 Pens
These pens just might be my new addiction. So these are so popular in my student council class. Just about everyone has at least one, some have huge packs of a lot of different colors even! So I decided to try them out, and they really are wonderful. They flow nicely and have good packaging that isn't likely to break.I highly recommend these if you need or want new pens!

“Rebecca” by Daphne Du Maurier
I had to read this book for school, and it’s one of the best books I've ever had to read for school! I actually did a full book review on my blog, so I’ll link the post here.

Celebrity Apprentice
This show began and they beginning of January and I might be obsessed! It’s so great. I love the concept and everything is just good. It is a reality TV show, so if that’s not that your thing, this show might not be to you. But it also has to do with business and charity! It comes on TV on Monday’s at 8 o'clock, but I think the final episode it almost here! However, good thing for those wanting to start watching, you can catch all episodes online!
Please note that this picture is not mine

Insulated Tumbler with Lid by Lilly Pulitzer
This was another birthday present (thank you mom and daddy!) Not only is this tumbler super cute, it’s super practical too. I find that when I take this to school with me I drink way more water than I would with just a regular water bottle. It hold 24 ounces so you don’t have to constantly fill it back up either! I’m not sure what print this on is though, sorry! I really recommend this is you’re looking for something that motivates you to drink more water.

Fiber One Brownies
Again, these were part of a birthday present (thanks Katie!) These really are some of the best brownies I've ever had in my entire life. I honestly can’t even explain why they are so good, they just are. What’s also really awesome about these is that they’re only 90 calories! I really recommend these for someone with a sweet tooth, whether you're trying to be healthy or not!

Monogram Key chain
This is yet another birthday present (thank you mom and daddy!) I think this is super cute! I had been wanting one for a long time and completely forgot about it until my mom gave it to me. I am so glad I have it and I really love it.
